COURSE DESCRIPTION
The course introduces the elements of pipeline design, construction, operation and maintenance. The type of source data required for selecting the route of pipeline is emphasized. Pressure drop calculation for pipelines (in series and parallel) is explained in detail. Compressors, coolers and pumps and related facilities are introduced. Methods of construction and protection for pipeline are briefly explained. Information about pipeline integrity is given.
OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE
The objectives of the course to inform students (1) elements of pipeline design, (2) pipeline route selection, (3) hydrocarbon gas and liquid transmission and related facilities, (4) pipeline construction and protection, (5) pipeline integrity.
CONTENT
Definition of the elements influencing pipeline design through to construction, operation and maintenance. Pipeline route selection, survey and geotechnical guidelines. Natural gas transmission. Gas compression and coolers. Transient flow in liquid and gas pipelines. Pipeline mechanical design. Materials selection and quality management. Pipeline construction. Pipeline protection. Pipeline integrity.
