COURSE DESCRIPTION
LPG Technology and Sector is an elective course for third and fourth year Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering students. This course offers a through knowledge of properties and uses of liquefied petroleum gases and LPG trade in Turkey and in the world. The course starts with the basic of LPG. Then the physical and chemical properties of LPG and basics of liquid-gas hydrocarbon phase equilibria are introduced. Topics on logistics, transportation, storage, standards are covered. Use of LPG in the forms of bottled, bulk and as fuel for vehicles is discussed. Finally safety issues, LPG sector in Turkey, and sales strategies are explained. In the final week, a field trip to an LPG facility near Istanbul is organized for hands-on practice for the students.
OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE
The objective of this course is to provide students detailed knowledge of the liquefied petroleum gases and inners of LPG sector in Turkey and in the world. The course is designed to cover important fundamental topics of LPG so that the students will be equipped with a working knowledge of how to handle LPG as a flammable, explosive and pressurized but extremely useful and practical fuel under different ways of usage.

LPG trade in Turkey and in the world; LPG, natural gas and other competitors; physical and chemical properties of LPG, corrosive effects on metals, LPG testing standards; logistics of an LPG company, transportation of LPG over seas and land; LPG storage; LPG bottling facilities; bulk LPG systems; use of LPG as fuel for vehicles; LPG usage safety; LPG sector in Turkey; LPG sales strategies; field trip to an LPG facility near Istanbul.
