Course Title In Turkish :
Petrol ve Doğal Gaz Laboratuarı
Department :
Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering
Course Code : PET 321
Course Hours : 0+2
Course Credits : 1
Course Type : Required Semester : 5 Prerequisites (If Any) : PET 212E Rock Properties
Course Language : Turkish Instructor : Assistant Prof. Dr. Züleyha Aydınoğlu
Course Web Page: http://atlas.cc.itu.edu.tr/~ugur/pet321.htm
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Orienting the students to the laboratory and equipment, including demonstrations of equipment, rigging up/rigging down, and care and maintenance instructions. Safe handling of lab chemicals is introduced. The importance of calibration of measuring devices is given. The physical properties of fluids and porous media, density, API gravity, viscosity, water cut and sediment cut, extraction, distillation, surface and interfacial tension, porosity, saturation, permeability, Klinkenberg effect, relative permeability, are investigated experimentally. Effect of temperature on physical properties of fluids is showed. Evaluation of the experimental results by engineering analysis methods and documentation of the experimental results in the form of the technical report are introduced. The measured properties are used for fluid flow equations in related to the porous media.
OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE
The objectives of the course to inform the students
(1) physical properties of reservoir fluids and porous media,
(2) the experimental methods used to determine these properties,
(3) using these properties in fluid flow equations for porous media,
(4) safety handling in lab,
(5) technical report.
CONTENT
Conducting experiments to investigate the physical properties of fluids and porous media; density, API gravity, viscosity, water cut and sediment cut, extraction, distillation, surface and interfacial tension, porosity, saturation, permeability, Klinkenberg effect, relative permeability. Evaluation of the experimental results by engineering analysis methods. Documentation of the experimental results in the form of the technical report written according to the technical writing guidelines and formats.
