COURSE DESCRIPTION
Production Engineering I is a base course for the third year Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering students. This course offers a basic knowledge of petroleum production. The course starts with the basics of a production system. Then fluid flow in porous media and reservoir performance are covered in detail. Rest of the class is devoted to tubing performance, single and multi-phase flow in pipes, wellhead performance, choke and flow-line performance. The nodal analysis technique is used to explain how to design production string elements.
OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE
The objective of this course is to introduce students with basics of production systems. The course is designed to cover important fundamental topics so that the students will be equipped with a working knowledge of reservoir, tubing, wellhead, choke and flow line performance, tubing design and multiphase flow in pipes.
CONTENT
Introduction to production engineering and production systems; flow of fluids in porous media; productivity index and reservoir energy mechanisms; inflow performance; Vogel method and its applications; Fetkovitch method and flow tests; prediction of inflow performance in the future; flow of single phase Newtonian fluids in pipes; flow regimes; elements of pressure loss in pipes; gradient curves; basics of nodal analysis; point of natural flow; tubing design for different well geometries; choke and flow line performance.
